Marvel Comet: Is Now a Good Time?

By: James Sgoupis / Staff Writer
Yes, it’s the perfect time for this game to come out.
Scopely has a new mobile Marvel game set to be released next year called Marvel Comet. Described as an ARPG, or Action Role-Playing Game, Marvel Comet brings us a game with no turns and real-time action.
As a Marvel fan, especially for mobile games, this sounds like the perfect kind of game. I would normally be sold on the fact that it’s another Marvel game, but then I realized: it’s a Marvel game.
Across the years of my existence, I thought games would be forever, but sadly, some aren’t.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem, a tactical RPG developed by NetEase Games, came out in June 2025. It fits the category of a perfectly built game: clear graphics, original stories, and a supportive community.

Unfortunately, this game shut down earlier this year in April, mainly due to having poor gacha mechanics and poor pull rates, resulting in difficult progression.
Marvel Future Revolution, an open-world RPG developed by Netmarble, also shut down in 2023, two years after its start. It closed its doors due to low revenue and low player retention.
Turning to Marvel console/PC games, some games within the last six years have been relative duds.
Marvel's Avengers, a third-person action-adventure developed by Crystal Dynamics, was released in 2020. Due to poor player count and an unrenewed license, it was unlisted in 2023.
A few years later, in 2022, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, developed by Firaxis Games, was released to mixed reviews. From experience, I can tell you that despite being a good game, it was slow-paced.
Each day only allowed one mission to be completed, with nights spent talking to other characters instead of fighting. No, it’s not a battle with swords. It’s a battle with words.

On a more positive note, Marvel has had more luck with its line of Spider-Man games, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and Marvel Rivals, games that are relevant and were developed recently.
It is unfortunately a pattern with Marvel games; some do it right from the get-go, some don’t. Since Marvel Mystic Mayhem and Marvel Future Revolution were both mobile games, does this mean Marvel Comet is doomed to fail before it begins?
It’s hard to say by just looking at the “Marvel” side of things. Let’s transition into another category: the developer.
Marvel Comet is developed by Scopely, a company known for popular games, such as Monopoly Go and Marvel Strike Force.
The popularity of Monopoly Go!—with millions of reviews and over 880 million downloads from the Apple App Store—and Marvel Strike Force—a mobile game that’s been around for eight years—makes it a certainty that Marvel Comet will take off.
Scopely's success in games stems from its ability to dig into and capitalize on users' favorite franchises. Marvel Strike Force, Monopoly Go!, Pokémon Go, and Star Trek Fleet Command all represent topics people are interested in. Scopely turns them into simple games for users to play remotely.
Marvel Comet comes in at a perfect time for Marvel to rebound in video game popularity. With the additions of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers Doomsday breathing new life into Marvel, Marvel Comet will arrive in the heels of amazing Marvel projects.
Scopley still has plenty of room to develop this game, with time to make Marvel Comet an amazing addition to any mobile gamer's collection.
