The New York Mets successfully swept their first home series of the season, taking all three games against the Toronto Blue Jays at Citi Field.

Starting with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Blue Jays on Friday, the team kept the good vibes going throughout the entire weekend.

In front of a sold out ballpark on Friday afternoon, Francisco Lindor got in on the action with a double to center field in the first inning. Pete Alonso then connected on his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field that put the Mets up 2-0.

“He’s locked in,” said manager Carlos Mendoza. “He’s not chasing. He’s laying off some tough pitches. He’s not missing pitches in the strike zone. And he’s using the whole field.”

The first five innings were led by pitcher Tylor Megill, who became one of only 11 Mets to start a home opener since the first inaugural season at Citi Field in 2009. The pitcher dominated five shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four.

With Lindor leading off first base in the sixth inning, superstar outfielder Juan Soto ripped a double – his first hit at Citi Field as a New York Met – that scored Lindor. The Blue Jays opted to intentionally walk Alonso but Brandon Nimmo hit a double that plated Soto and advanced Alonso to third. Starling Marte then brought the Polar Bear home on a sacrifice fly for the 5-0 lead; the lead would hold for the rest of the game as right-hander Max Kranick closed the show in the top of the ninth.

On Saturday, the Mets – a team known for miraculous comebacks – made an epic rally to snag a walk off victory over the Jays.

After loading the bases several times without success, the Mets found themselves down 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Lindor led off the frame with a walk and Soto followed up with a single.

After Alonso and Nimmo were retired, Jesse Winker connected on his second triple of the day, a rocket that scored both Lindor and Alonso to tie the game at two runs apiece.

After the incredible play, the club’s closer Edwin Diaz took the mound in the ninth and struck out three players without allowing a run.

In the button of the ninth, Jose Siri walked and reached second thanks to a wild pitch by Blue Jays pitcher Nick Sandlin. Luis Torrens then singled on a sharp line that sent Siri to third.

With one out and runners on the corners, Lindor stepped into the box with the whole crowd watching him. Mr. Smile turned on the first pitch he saw, drilling a deep fly ball to center fielder Myles Straw. Siri tagged from third on the sacrifice fly and scored with ease, marking a 3-2, walk-off victory for the Mets.

“We had some wins last year coming from behind and today was one of those wins that reminded you, we’ve got a really good team,” said Diaz. “We just have to keep fighting until the end.”

The Mets did it again on Sunday, taking the final game against Toronto to complete the series sweep.

In the bottom of the third inning, with Soto at first base and Hayden Senger at second, Alonso singled on a ground ball to center field that scored Senger and sent Soto to third. Nimmo then hit a sacrifice fly that plated Soto for an early 2-0 lead.

Toronto halved the lead in the top of the fifth after Andres Giminez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, sending Tyler Heineman home.

But the Mets pitchers did their job. Even though the club didn’t score another run, the bullpen was brilliant and held the Jays scoreless the rest of the way, punctuated when Diaz closed the show in the top of the ninth.

Kranick, who relieved starter David Peterson, was especially dominant, hurling 1.1 hitless innings with a strikeout, picking up the win in the contest.

“Whatever the team asks is great,” said Kranick. “Any opportunity to pitch in the big leagues is great and perfect for me.”

The 2025 New York Mets are not playing around and the message is clear – they are here to win and are motivated to contribute to the team in whatever way they need to.
