And just like that, it’s that time of year again: Halloween!
With October barreling by, Halloween will be here before you know it. If you’ve procrastinated but still want to be unique and dress up with your friends, look no further!
These costume suggestions will guarantee you first place in the best costume competition.
Individual Costumes
Recreate an Iconic Celebrity Look
This is one of my personal favorites since it allows you to honor your favorite celebrity while getting as creative as you like. If you don’t have a specific look in mind, all you have to do is take a celebrity you like, whether it be a singer, actress, athlete, etc., and Google their name followed by “red carpet” or “iconic outfits.”
For example, as most of us know, Billie Eilish is known for her black and green hair and wearing oversized clothes. A wig sporting her double buns can be found on Amazon, and you can purchase an oversized t-shirt and shorts from any department store!
Aliyah Core
Aliyah Bah aka @aliyahsinterlude on TikTok is known for creating Aliyah Core, dubbed as a “hodgepodge of Y2K, alternative and Harajuku style” by the New York Times. Although she wears this on an everyday basis, this might be out of your comfort zone making Halloween the perfect time to try it out!
Aliyah Core outfits typically consist of knee-high platform moon boots with fur, a garter belt, fishnet stockings over one leg and both arms, earmuffs, a miniskirt (or incredibly short shorts), makeup that matches the outfit's tint, and a flurry of hair accessories. The great thing about this style is that there is no right or wrong, it all depends on what you want it to be. You can add and subtract accessories as you see fit.
Holly Golightly
Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's character Holly Golightly is always a fantastic choice. It's not only classic, but it also comes together easily and without any hassle.
All you’ll need is a black mini dress, pearls, a tiara, black gloves, and sunglasses with her signature bun. Additionally, instead of her classic look, you could also do her look from when she just woke up. This includes a large white button-up shirt, a blue lash sleeping mask, and tassel earrings.
Duo Costumes
Kylie and Kendall Jenner Met Gala 2019
Who could forget the iconic moment that is the Jenner’s 2019 Met Gala looks? To this Met Gala, Kylie and Kendall Jenner rocked stunning purple and orange ensembles. While we may not have the budget to fully recreate these looks, we can put our own affordable twist on it! A purple wig and purple dress with poms and an orange dress with feathers will do the trick. While these two are done together you can definitely wear them individually as well.
Weird Barbie and Allan
Although these two weren’t a couple, they go great together! Instead of being the classic Barbie and Ken, why not be Weird Barbie and Allan? Weird Barbie sports a pink dress, and crazy hair that can be accomplished with a wig and marker markings on her face and body. Allan's outfit consists of blue shorts and a striped shirt, which together create a comfortable and laid-back vibe.
Hailey and Justin Bieber
We all remember when Justin Bieber was severely underdressed for his wife’s skincare brand’s launch back in August. Fast forward a couple of months, and this embarrassing moment has turned into a comical costume idea.
This costume consists of one person wearing a red strapless dress, red heels, a B necklace, and a red purse with a slick back bun. The other person gets to wear a two-piece groutfit with a trucker hat and yellow Crocs.
Group Costumes
Bob's Burger's Family + Teddy
Got a group of five? This is the costume for you! This five-person family of humor wears clothes that most people own, which are useful and inexpensive. You can also match your friends to whichever character best fits their personality. If you’re still unsure of who should be who, try a test like this one, Which “Bob’s Burger” Character Are You Most Like? If you’ve got a sixth member you can add in a family friend, Teddy who’s seen in the back right of the picture!
The mother, Linda, wears a red long-sleeve shirt, which will keep you warm as it’s supposed to be chilly this Halloween, and jeans with yellow shoes and red glasses. The father, Bob, wears a white shirt and jeans with a white apron and black shoes. The eldest daughter, Tina, wears a blue top, skirt, glasses, and high socks. And you can’t forget her classic black bob. The middle child, Gene, wears a yellow shirt and jeans shorts with red high-top shoes. Last, but not least there’s the youngest child, Louise, who wears a green dress with pink bunny ears.
Monster High Dolls
Monster High Dolls? Yes please! The six main characters are Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, Lagoona Blue, Cleo de Nile, and Ghoulia Yelps and they each have their own unique styles.
Frankie Stein has black and white striped hair and wears a blue plaid top and skirt with pink tennis shoes. Draculara has black and hot pink striped hair and wears a hot pink vest and a white skirt with baby pink thigh-high boots. Clawdeen Wolf has brown and purple hair and wears a purple fur coat, a pink and black tiger-striped top, a purple mini-skirt, and purple thigh-high boots.
Lagoona Blue has blue skin and blonde hair and wears a black and baby blue jacket, a pink fish scale top, black shorts, and black platform heels. Cleo de Nile has brown highlighted hair and wears a baby blue criss-cross top, gold pants, and strappy gold heels. Lastly, Ghoulia Yelps has blue hair and wears a cherry tanktop over a black and white mid-length shirt with fishnets underneath, red jeans, and knee-high Converse heels complete with white glasses and red lipstick.
Teen Titans Go!
T-E-E-N T-I-T-A-N-S ! Let’s Go!
This comedic group of superheroes makes for a simple and fun costume. This group can be broken up into duos and trios as well as the full group. The leader of the group, Robin wears a red shirt, green plants, glasses, a yellow belt and cape, with black boots. Beast Boy has green skin and hair, a black long sleeve with a purple shirt on top, black pants, a silver belt, and either black or purple shoes.
Raven wears a long hooded purple cape that’s typically closed, but under it, she wears a black leotard and white tights with purple boots. Starfire has long hot pink hair and wears a purple two-piece shirt/skirt set and purple knee-high boots. Lastly, Cyborg’s costume can be as complex or simple as you want to because he is a robot which can be difficult to construct on his own. In its simplest form, his right eye is red, his top is grey and his pants are black with white boots
