The LIU men's basketball team has a lot to celebrate after winning against Mercyhurst 79-70 on Tuesday night, March 10. This win contributed to their 7th NEC Championship since the start of the basketball program, and marked their return to March Madness since 2018.

Though the Sharks already had an automatic bid into March Madness (their opponent is ineligible due to their jump from Division II to Division I and must wait until the 2027-2028 season), guard Malachi Davis expressed that the team feels like they earned their tickets to the NCAA tournament.

March Madness is set to begin on March 15 with Selection Sunday, and the first games take place a few days later. Fins up to our Sharks for making it all this way!

Mayor Zohran Mamdani establishes a new office dedicated to LGBTQIA+ for NYC citizens. In the midst of rollbacks on federal protections and resources for queer Americans since President Donald Trump resumed his position in office, Mayor Mamdani has made an effort to aid the queer community in New York when it comes to homelessness, healthcare, and job security.

This day was a long time coming. It took years of activism from community leaders who recognize how often queer New Yorkers fall through the cracks while attempting to access our city’s social services,” Mamdani stated, introducing Taylor Brown as the first transgender woman.

Brown currently works at the Attorney General’s office in the civil rights bureau, but this new position will place her as one of the highest-ranking queer people in the New York government.

President Trump has stated that U.S. forces “obliterated” targets on Kharg Island, an important territory of Iran due to the oil facilities on the island, on Friday Night, March 13. Many of the islands off the shore of Iran have become a focus of the U.S.-Israeli war that started on February 28.

Kharg Island, however, serves as the country’s oil network, which is how Iran exports many of their oil barrels. Iran threatens to unleash more dangerous munitions if the U.S. continues to interfere with its territories, the potential targets being other oil-producing countries in the Middle East that are allied with the U.S. and Israel.

The Colombian Rapper Feid announced to his fans that he will launch his own record label, where he has full creative control of his catalog and full ownership of his masters. Feid goes on to tell Billboard how this has been one of his dreams since he was a child.

“It was also part of my famous manifestation board, and it has always been an ambition of mine to have my own label and my own work, not only for this chapter of my career as a musician, but also to be able to develop new artists at some point, to have the means to take them where they deserve to be,” Feid finishes off.

The label will operate under a distribution agreement with Universal Latin Music Entertainment, and the artist has already revealed that the label will be structured to cover different areas, such as booking, touring, management, and more.

President Trump has declared that unless Congress passes the SAVE Act, he will not sign any legislation into law. The SAVE Act would require Americans to show extensive proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Passing the Act in the middle of a Federal midterm election will create chaotic changes for election workers. The Senate will consider the legislation next week; however, many leaders say they don’t have the votes, which will effectively doom the bill.

Many government officials also commented on how this bill affects voters around the country, with Gréta Bedekovics, director of democracy policy at the Center for American Progress, commenting on the complete chaos that will ensue.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that this would disenfranchise people,” She stated.
