LIU Women’s Volleyball Team Defeats Mercyhurst University
LIU’s women's volleyball team faced off against Mercyhurst University on October 11, 2025, and won 3-0. This victory marks their eighth consecutive win of the season. The team was also able to take the NEC Championship.

María Corina Machado Wins Nobel Peace Prize
María Corina Machado, Venezuelan politician, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, October 10, 2025, for “tireless work promoting democratic rights”.
Members of the White House were not happy about this, as President Donald Trump was also a nominee for the prize. Many members of the White House took to social media to express their discontent. World leaders such as Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed their thoughts, believing that Trump deserved the prize.
Trump was included in Machado’s speech, with her dedicating the prize to the people of Venezuela as well as President Trump, who she says supports their cause.
Israel and Hamas Agree to First Phase of Trump’s Peace Plan For Gaza
After negotiating for days, it was announced that both Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of President Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza. Within a 72-hour window, Hamas must release all Israeli hostages. Palestinian prisoners and detainees are also said to be released.
After months of Israel blocking aid from entering Gaza and forcing Palestine into a man-made famine, around 600 aid trucks were able to enter on Friday and will continue to enter daily.
Taylor Swift Releases New Album
Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album on October 3, 2025. Her new album “The Life of a Showgirl” has already broken the record on Spotify for single-day streaming, previously held by her last album “The Tortured Poets Department”.
Despite all the positive feedback on the album, some fans have been criticizing it on social media. Many believe that the new album lacks defining traits in her lyricism, saying that her old songs had complex and deep lyrics and that these lyrics are dull and boring.
Denver Broncos Defeat New York Jets
The Denver Broncos played against the New York Jets today at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Broncos led the game up until the third quarter when the Jets took the lead because of a safety.
The Broncos were able to recover as their defense was strong against the Jets, and they were able to sack the Jets' QB Justin Fields, who was only able to complete nine of his 17 passes.
The Broncos' defense sacked Fields nine times to take the win after kicking a field goal from 27 yards and holding the Jets' offense for three minutes, giving them a two-point lead over the Jets, ending the game with the final score being 13-11.
