Local News: E-Sports Club Arrives at LIU Brooklyn

A new club is making waves in the shark-filled ocean. Long Island University Brooklyn's upcoming club—the E-Sports Club—held an interest meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8, to promote. It invites all gamers, regardless of their skill level, to come in, sit down, and play video games with other students.
The E-Sports Lounge has been an underutilized part of the Brooklyn Campus, and this club aims to breathe new life into the amazing high-tech space. The club hopes that, over the course of the semester, esports will become part of campus culture and relevant for years to come.
National News: Christa Pike survives fatal injections

Christa Pike, a 50-year-old woman on death row for the 1995 torture and murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, survived multiple attempted lethal injections meant to end her life. Christa Pike was described as being confused about still being alive, having immense pain in her arms after the injections failed.
Due to this failure, all other executions are paused, and evidence is going to be collected regarding this botched procedure. Pike is reported to be awake and speaking at a hospital, where she cannot swallow and uses a breathing tube to eat her meals.
International News: 'Pnuemonic Plague' Worries Russia’s Irkutsk region

Earlier this week, a Russian scientist who researched plagues passed away due to unknown causes. Early news coverage has labeled it as a “pneumonic plague,” spreading fear among people. According to CNN, areas around this lab, located in Siberia, have started imposing anti-epidemic procedures out of caution.
According to this same website, reports say that there may be another person who has pneumonia; its cause is also unknown. With the Kremlin offering little to no news about this possible outbreak, the news of an unknown plague-related death is something that we all should be concerned about.
A&E: Paramount and Warner Bros. Merger

It’s been about a year since Paramount showed interest in acquiring Warner Bros., with the merger officially closed on October 6th. The Paramount and Warner Bros. merger is now worth an estimated $111 billion.
The company’s new name is Skydance Corporation, a multimedia conglomerate. These two companies now bring HBO Max, Paramount+, and Pluto T.V. streaming services under one roof. Paramount outbid Netflix and other companies to accomplish this historic deal. The merger leaves David Ellison in charge as the CEO, with Ynon Kreiz as the Co-CEO.
Sports: Yankees Eliminated By Rays

The New York Yankees' hopes of making it to the ALDS are over with a 3-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. In game 3 of the American League Division Series, Anthony Volpe, the batter for the Yankees, hit the ball out to Victor Mesa Jr., the left fielder for the Rays. Running to the wall, a Yankee fan intercepted it, leaving Mesa unable to catch it.
Instead of being a game-tying run, it was downgraded to a double, getting one player back to home instead of two. In the end, the Yankees lost 4-3 in game 3, ultimately being eliminated from the ALDS due to the fan.
