The LIU women’s soccer team earned its third straight win on October 2nd, defeating Stonehill 2–1 and maintaining an undefeated conference record. Betty Hall tied the game with a penalty kick before Casey Beauregard secured the lead in the 74th minute.
Goalkeeper Keely Thomas recorded a season-high 10 saves, helping the Sharks hold off a late push from Stonehill. Federal Shutdown Enters Second Week

The U.S. government shutdown entered its second week after Congress failed to reach a funding agreement. Roughly 750,000 federal employees remain furloughed, while essential agencies continue with limited staffing.
Lawmakers are locked in a partisan battle over spending priorities, healthcare funding, and border policy. The White House warned that the prolonged shutdown could disrupt social services, delay federal paychecks, and harm the economy if it continues. Negotiations are ongoing, but so far neither side has shown signs of compromise, leaving federal workers and citizens in limbo.
Hamas Backs Partial Gaza Peace Deal

In a major development, Hamas announced it has accepted parts of a proposed peace plan brokered by President Donald Trump. The deal includes a hostage exchange and the transfer of civil control in Gaza to a neutral administrative body.
However, Hamas has not agreed to full disarmament, leaving the ceasefire’s timeline uncertain. Trump urged Israel to pause military operations, calling the situation “very close to peace.” Analysts remain cautious, warning that without concrete guarantees, renewed violence remains possible in the region.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Returns After Suspension

After nearly a week off the air, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” returned to ABC on September 23rd following a network suspension sparked by backlash over a controversial monologue. Disney and ABC reinstated the late-night host after affiliate stations briefly refused to air the show.
Kimmel addressed the controversy in his opening remarks, saying he was “relieved but surprised” to be back on air. The incident sparked a broader discussion about comedy, free speech, and the fine line between humor and offense in today’s media landscape.
