Tennessee Titans Trade for L’Jarius Sneed
The Tennessee Titans have been active this offseason after finishing 5-12 last season. This offseason, the Tennessee Titans have added running back Tony Pollard, wide receiver Calvin Ridley, center Lloyd Cushinberry, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and now cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
Sneed joins the Titans via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs who decided to part ways with the Pro Bowl cornerback after failing to come to terms on a contract. Sneed had expressed a willingness to play on the franchise tag for the year, but the Chiefs decided to move on from Sneed. Their talented secondary takes a hit, but remains with one All-Pro cornerback in Trent McDuffie.
Tennessee sends a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick swap for Sneed while also paying him $19 million a year.
Blake Snell Signs with the San Francisco Giants
Blake Snell and the San Francisco Giants agreed to terms to a 2 year $62 million deal on March 19. The two-time Cy Young winner joins a pitching group that had its struggles last season. The rotation now boasts Logan Webb, Blake Snell and Camilo Doval as its leading pitching talents. Snell immediately becomes the ace for this squad, but the talent in the pitching core has definitely grown this offseason.
Oakland Shocks Kentucky
March is living up to its maddening nature.
14 seed Oakland upset Kentucky in a thriller where they got the lead early and never let go of it. The high paced offenses battled and stars for both teams had great games. Oakland’s Jack Gohlke got hot and stayed hot from three the whole game, torching Kentucky for 10 threes over the course of the game, one short of the NCAA March Madness record.
Kentucky was expected to make a run given their star studded roster, including two of the country's best freshmen, Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard. The squad led by coach Calipari failed to meet the expectations of many, including themselves.
LIU Baseball Sweeps Norfolk State Series
LIU Baseball closes out their series against Norfolk State the same way they started the series: with a win. The Sharks swept the series against Norfolk State, winning the final game 6-3. The Sharks were propelled by a plethora of hitters who found great rhythm within the game. Four hitters batted over .500, with Seth Surrett accumulating three hits over the course of the game, including a late RBI single. The Sharks sit with a record of 7-13 with a conference series against Sacred Heart ahead of them.
LIU Softball Sweeps Central Connecticut State
Speaking of sweeps, LIU Softball completed their sweep of conference opponent CCSU. Their final victory came in extra innings during the 10th inning, where Lily Hinkle won it with an RBI single. LIU Pitcher Lindsey Cowans pitched a complete game, allowing only one run in the first inning.
